This hand sanitizer works differently than alcohol-based formulas:
Active Ingredient: Instead of alcohol, it uses a non-oil skin conditioner formula containing an antiseptic, most commonly Benzalkonium Chloride (BZK) at 0.1% concentration, which effectively kills germs on contact.
Mechanism: The BZK works by disrupting the cellular membranes of bacteria and viruses, effectively destroying them.
Foaming Action: The product is designed for use in a foaming dispenser. The dispenser mixes the liquid solution with air during dispensing to create a rich, thick foam that is easy to rub thoroughly over your hands.
Application: It is designed for on-the-spot use without the need for soap and water. The user simply dispenses the foam into their hands, rubs it in, and allows it to dry.
Benefits: The alcohol-free, non-drying formula is gentle on hands, even with frequent use, and does not have the harsh scent of alcohol. Benzalkonium-based products may also offer extended protection even after drying, compared to alcohol gels which stop working once dry.
